The 2009 Inauguration Ceremony of the World Tipiṭaka Recitation at Buddha Gaya was organised between February 12-21, 2009 by Maha Bodhi Society of India Buddha Gaya, Bihar, Republic of India.

Maha Bodhi Society of India inaugurated the Tipiṭaka Chanting in 2006, the first time that all international Buddhist monks the world over gathered at the sacred holy Bodhi Tree at Buddha Gaya.

In 2007, the World Tipiṭaka Edition in Roman Script in 40 volumes was presented to the Maha Bodhi Society of India by HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana of Thailand. Following the royal gift for India, 600 sets of Tipiṭaka Recitation Edition were presented in 2008 to Maha Bodhi Society for the Annual Tipiṭaka Chanting.

Since then the World Tipiṭaka Recitation Edition has been used as a standard recitation text for the international Buddhist gathering at Buddha Gaya, the holy pilgrimage site where the Supreme Buddha attained enlightenment over 2500 years ago.
